February 29, 2012Verizon Wireless to release Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 4G LTE Tablet on March 1

First announced at CES 2012, the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 tablet is ready to be released at Verizon Wireless Communications Stores and Verizon Wireless online on March 1st.  This compact tablet device is powered by a 1.4 GHz dual-core processor and it has a 7.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen display at 1280x800 resolution for enjoying movies, pictures and games.  Priced at $499.99 with a new two-year customer agreement, the tablet offers customers quick access the Web with its HTML 5 Web browser, streaming music, Samsung Media Hub entertainment and more via Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network, with mobile broadband data plans starting at $30 monthly access for 2 GB of data.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 can also be used to control your home entertainment system, with the "Peel Smart Remote" feature controlling televisions, audio players and other home entertainment systems. You can also connect this tablet with your HDTV via a HDMI Multimedia Dock and built-in HDMI port.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 features:

Sony Tablet P: At what price dual screens?

Sony's dual-screen Android tablet looks cool and can compact itself to fit into your pocket, but does its novel design preclude it from delivering a solid tablet experience?

"The Sony DS?". That was my first choice for the headline of this piece, but I felt it was a bit too cute and somewhat misleading.
So, do dual screens improve or hinder the tablet experience?

Design

The first thing you'll notice about the Sony Tablet P is the dual-screen, hinge-based design that allows the tablet to be compacted, like a clam shell.
The second thing is that, once folded, the tablet looks not unlike a large eyeglass case, that will likely fit into most large pockets.

Does Nokia have Summer Surpise For Us? A Windows 8 Tablet Perhaps?

According to reports from the French newspaper Les Échos,  Nokia’s former Head of France has leaked to them that Nokia should have a Windows 8 powered tablet coming out early this summer.

This is not new news however…it became more relevant with his other leak from form the same interview that did where he also predicted the coming of the Lumia 900.

“the Lumia 800 is the equivalent of a BMW 5 Series…There will be a BMW 7 Series and BMW 3 series equivalent…”

He also went on to tell about 4.3 inch screen, NFC support, and  LTE which as we know all showed up in the Nokia 900.

In this interview he was quoted as stating that Nokia tablet will come out in June 2012.  So why I am sticking with this summer? It’s that the interview was old and things could have changed between than and now. One thing is safe to say is that the Nokia tablet is coming and coming soon!

Nokia has won the prestigious “Best New Mobile Handset, Device or Tablet at Mobile World Congress 2012? award with their new Nokia 808 Pure View.

The decision was made by a panel of leading journalists and analysts at the show that elected Nokia 808 as the best mobile at the event and the 41 Mpixels camera sure helped Nokia to get their hands on this prize. This way, Nokia finally returns as a leading brand in terms of technology and Jo Harlow has left a promise in the air: “There’s lot more to come”.

AT&T is et to release the new Sony Tablet P dual screen, multi-functional 4G tablet in the United States on  March 4. The device will run on AT&T's 4G Network, and will be sold for $399.99 with a two-year service agreement. 

The Sony Tablet P offers a clam-shell design with a dual-screen layout and two 5.5-inch displays that can be used for different functions like playing video on one screen while using the other as a controller, or checking email on one screen while using the other as a keyboard. These displays can also be combined and used as a single large screen.  Sony has announced games, entertainment and lifestyle apps which are optimized for the dual screens of Sony Tablet P via Sony's "Select App," and the device is also PlayStation Certified for gaming and provides access to Sony Network Entertainment services as well.

Google Tablet to Compete Against IPad 3

Google will launch a new 7-inch tablet this spring, sources say, as the search giant continues its quest to dominate the mobile technology market and compete with rivals like Apple and Amazon.

The company has not publicly stated its intentions to produce a tablet, but analysts at DisplaySearch say the device will boast a 1280 by 800 resolution screen, and run an unmodified, pure version of Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

Google's recent acquisition of Motorola Mobility will empower the company to begin manufacturing its own hardware, and with plans in the works for a digital home entertainment system, cable service, and several new smartphones, Google is ramping up competition against its rivals in multiple yet connected sectors.

With the Motorola merger, Google gained ownership of three tablets: the 10.1-inch Xoom, the 10.1-inch Xyboard, and the 8.2-inch Xyboard. The new 7-inch tablet is likely meant to go head-to-head with Apple's iPad tablets and Amazon's similarly-sized Kindle Fire, to diversify the company's offerings.

Apple pioneered the tablet market with the iPad and broke sales records with the iPad 2, dominating the tablet market. The Cupertino, Calif.-based company is expected to launch the iPad 3 in March, while Google's highly anticipated tablet entry will d?but in April.

However, Apple is reportedly considering producing a smaller, less expensive model to directly compete with the Kindle Fire, so competition in the smaller-screened devices could ramp up.

The Kindle Fire is a runaway success, with over 5 million units sold since the device's November launch, according to Barclay's. Tablet computers are increasingly popular, and Google likely wants to capitalize on the growing trend while improving upon current successful models with a higher resolution screens akin to Samsung's Galaxy 7.7 tablet.

Amazon's Kindle Fire runs on a modified version of Android, but to date, Google hasn't offered a branded alternative to compete with the best-selling device.

Google is also looking to beef up its content offerings, as Amazon and Apple's tablets are both backed by massive media libraries. The Mountain View, Calif.-based company is making deals with TV stations and movie studios to create YouTube channels, and rumors say the company is also exploring deals with record labels and streaming services for its digital home music system.

Such deals could further establish a working relationship with the entertainment industry, boosting Google's content and allowing users easy access and downloads to any Google-branded tablet.

Finally, Google Wallet, the search engine's mobile payment system, will make that content easy to pay for with the click of a keypad on any linked devices, rounding out the Google ecosystem of products.

A Google tablet dovetails with comments made by chairman Eric Schmidt in December, which touched on plans to market a tablet. However, Schmidt did not clarify if the device would be of Google's own design, or a co-branded device with a maker like Motorola.

Google is fighting to stay on top of the tech industry, and taking risks to expand in several different directions. A pure Android tablet with high-resolution and great content options could be just the thing to sway consumers away from Apple's iPad and Amazon's Kindle Fire into Google's growing ecosystem.

The device is aimed squarely at the dominant, and cheap, Amazon Kindle Fire, which is the world’s leading 7-inch Android device. The tablet, which former CEO Eric Schmidt first mentioned in December, also would advance Google’s plan to create a unified software and hardware ecosystem — just like that company in Cupertino.

Richard Shim, an analyst with DisplaySearch, told CNET the Google tablet is on track for production in April and is expected to cost $199. It will sport a 7-inch, 1280×800 display and run Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0). Those specs, if they pan out, one-up the Kindle Fire, which also costs $199 but has a 1024×600 display and runs on a modified version of Gingerbread (Android 2.3).

Should the tablet actually materialize, it would be yet another entry in Google’s sweeping hardware initiative. Google’s acquisition of Motorola Mobility will give the search company a ready-to-go hardware division. The tablet also would follow the rumored music-streaming entertainment device that would take advantage of the proposed Android@Home initiative announced at Google I/O.

This week The New York Times reported that Google is working on HUD glasses that could be formally announced by the end of the year.

Beyond its internal hardware initiatives, Google has partnered with HTC and Samsung for its Nexus-branded smartphones. The current crop of Nexus flagship phones were the first Android phones powered by Ice Cream Sandwich.

Indeed, all the rumored hardware and the Motorola Mobility acquisition suggest Google is positioning itself as a company that owns the entire “product stack,” from operating system to app ecosystem to hardware. This, of course, is the strategy employed by Google’s main rival in the mobile market, Apple.

Should Google continue down this path, it may be the next company, to “own the whole widget,” as Steve Jobs would say.
