PureView Technology to arrive to WP7 soon?

The press and the world of mobile fans got really impressed when Nokia shown the PureView technology with the world biggest sensor to date on a mobile phone. But it wasn’t only the 41 Megapixel camera sensor that caught the world by surprise, it was also that Nokia launched it on a Symbian phone.

Even after Nokia set the end of support for Symbian OS on 2016, they still seem to be betting in this platform, which is great for the still huge community of fans, but left guessing the ones that follow WP7 OS. Well, Damian Dinning already had left in the air that PureView would be extended to other devices when he told that Nokia wouldn’t use 5 years of research in a technology to use it in only one device. Now Jo Harlow, Nokia’s Senior Vice President, has confirmed that Pureview is indeed coming to Windows Phone and, in her words, it will not take very long. Will we have a new Top-End phone by Nokia at the launch of Apollo update? That would mean a 41 Mpixel camera phone featuring WP7 OS before the end of the year.

Nokia 808 Pureview wins Best New Mobile Handset, Device or Tablet award at Mobile World Congress 2012

Nokia has won the prestigious “Best New Mobile Handset, Device or Tablet at Mobile World Congress 2012? award with their new Nokia 808 Pure View.

The decision was made by a panel of leading journalists and analysts at the show that elected Nokia 808 as the best mobile at the event and the 41 Mpixels camera sure helped Nokia to get their hands on this prize. This way, Nokia finally returns as a leading brand in terms of technology and Jo Harlow has left a promise in the air: “There’s lot more to come”.

February 27, 2012Nokia 808 PureView Smartphone features high-resolution 41 megapixel sensor

Nokia has introduced its new high-end camera phone at the 2012 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. The Nokia 808 PureView smartphone features a large high-resolution 41 megapixel sensor with high-performance Carl Zeiss optics and new pixel oversampling technology.

The video above shows how at standard resolutions (2/3, 5 and 8 megapixels) the Nokia 808 PureView has the ability to zoom without loss of clarity and capture seven pixels of information, condensing into one pixel for the sharpest images.  According to Nokia, at high-resolution (38 megapixel maximum) the Nokia 888 can capture an image, then zoom, reframe, crop and resize afterwards, and then save in compact file sizes for sharing in email, MMS, or on social networks. The Nokia 808 PureView also features full HD 1080p video recording and playback with 4X lossless zoom and the world's first use of Nokia Rich Recording, which enables audio recording at CD-like levels of quality. Exclusive Dolby Headphone technology is also onboard for surround sound in headphones, and Dolby Digital Plus for 5.1 channel surround sound playback.

Nokia 808 PureView wins Best New Device at MWC

The winner for one last category of the Global Mobile Awards - the Best New Mobile Handset, Device or Tablet at Mobile World Congress 2012 award - was left to be announced and looking at the photo of smiling Nokia execs makes it easy to guess which device took that award home.

The Nokia 808 PureView, which arguably caused the biggest splash with its 41MP camera sensor, was voted worthy of the award by a panel of journalists and analysts attending the show.

Here's what Jo Harlow, Executive Vice President of smart devices at Nokia, had to say about the award:

It?s a fantastic award because it signifies that consumer experience counts. It?s about tech, but it?s about how tech is used to make a consumer have a fantastic experience. The imaging is fantastic; the audio is fantastic; the navigation technology is fantastic.

These are first signals that we are executing against our strategy. That we?re back. That we?re bringing great products to our consumers ? and that this is just the beginning. There?s lot more to come.

We have a lot of work ahead of us. We?re still a challenger, and we are going to operate as we have done in this last year to deliver these great results.

Ever since the announcement of the amazing Nokia 808 PureView, there has been a lot of discussion and confusion surrounding it.  To help clarify the confusion, Nokia has posted a video on their official channel discussing the technology behind the PureView camera. as told by one of their imaging experts, Damian Dinning.

Nokia announces PureView 808 with a 41 MP sensor

Today at their MWC2012's press event, Nokia brought the PureView teaser to fever pitch with the 41 megapixel camera of the Symbian Belle-running Nokia PureView 808.

The Nokia 808 PureView uses a 41 MP sensor, which captures image data from seven adjacent pixels and condenses it into one, resulting in stills at around 5 MP resolution with amazing detail and low noise levels. The optics are Carl Zeiss and there's Xenon flash and a LED one acting as a video light.

Technically, the sensor is able to capture 3 MP, 5 MP, 8 MP, 38 MP at 4:3 aspect ratio and 2 MP, 5 MP [Default], 8 MP, 34 MP at 16:9.

Video recording goes as high as FullHD 1080p at 30 fps and there's also 720p@30fps. Video is H264 encoded and supports stereo sound. The large image sensor allows 4x zoom in 1080p and 6x in 720p.

Nokia 808 PureView

The Nokia 808 PureView has a single-core 1.3 GHz processor and 512 MB of RAM and runs Symbian Belle. The display is a 16:9 4" AMOLED unit of nHD (640 x 360) resolution covered with curved Gorilla Glass.

There's NFC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, USB on the go and 16 GB of onboard storage.

The Nokia 808 PureView should be on the shelves around May 2012.

Nokia teases PureView monster cameraphone on video

As MWC hype is picking up momentum, Nokia decided to join the fun and released a short video trailer of its upcoming PureView smartphone.

The Nokia PureView is the rumored successor to the Nokia N8 camera-centered smartphone. Earlier online gossip had it its official name will be Nokia N808 PureView and it will be wielding the most capable camera mounted on a smartphone to date.

The Nokia video teaser doesn't really do much to confirm or refute those rumors, but we are hoping they come out right. The camera division of the company did an excellent job of the N8, but the handset was let down by its unimpressive chipset and less than stellar OS and UI.

The Nokia MWC press conference is scheduled for next Monday and, naturally, we'll be on site covering it live for you. Stay tuned!
