Nokia Lumia 900 to be released in Europe on April 9th. Lumia 610 on June 11th.

Nokia has presented at the MWC 2012 the Nokia Lumia 900 version for Europe as well the newest and most affordable member of their Windows Phone 7 phone family, the Lumia 610. The biggest question left open was the release date of these phones. Today, Mobilefun site had advanced with these dates.

The Lumia 900 is, according with this site, to be released on the April 9th. The top-end WP7 by Nokia, featuring a 1.4 Ghz processor, stands out from the other models essentially by his a 4.3? display and front-face camera. One curious detail is also, according with the same source, that this phone will arrive with WP7 Tango OS version.

The Nokia Lumia 610, the first 256 Mb RAM phone operating with a WP7 OS, should arrive only on June 11th and it will be destined mainly to youngsters due to his lower price tag that is expected to be 189 Euros before taxes.

Nokia preparing an Update for Nokia Belle 1st Generation phones

After yesterday’s bad news for the owners of Nokia Belle first generation phones, the Nokia N8, C7, C6-01, E7 and X7, Nokia has confirmed that a separated update is being prepared.

The Official confirmation came from discussions.europe.nokia.com forums by a moderator that have reported that Nokia is gathering feedback from the recent update released and new changes and fixes should come soon. Here’s the post in question:

Nokia Official Weather Widget is now available for Nokia Belle!

Nokia has officially released the Weather Widget that was, until now, only leaked and available for Nokia Belle hacked phones. This release features the 2 versions of the widgets, the Now and Forecast Weather.

The weather widget now released features:

* Search and select a fixed location. By default the widget displays the weather information of your current location.

* Information is updated automatically every 3 hours for fixed locations and every hour otherwise.

* Tap the widget to open the Weather application (part of Nokia Maps Suite 2.0) that shows detailed forecast. If Maps 3.09 or newer is installed, weather application will open forecast of the same location as is shown in widget. If you have not installed Nokia Maps Suite 2.0, the Weather application will always open to the detailed forecast for your current location.

Nokia Lumia 800 battery life gets a threefold improvement

The battery life on the Nokia Lumia 800 has been much criticized ever since the phone launched four months ago. Since then Nokia has released a couple of updates for the device aiming to improve the battery life but they didn't really help, with the last update merely dimming the display instead of providing any real improvement to the battery life.

However, they finally might be on to something with that last update we wrote about yesterday. According to WPCentral the new update provides up to three times the battery life compared to before, although they did not mention three times of what type of particular usage.

Besides the other improvements we already listed, one particular new change caught our attention. The update is supposed to bring an increase in bass response to improve the audio quality.

That's interesting because if you read our Lumia 800 review, we specifically mentioned the poor bass response of the device when it is connected to a pair of headphones.

Nokia: Our Windows Phones Need To Get Even Cheaper

There’s little question that Nokia is taking the low-end of the smartphone market very seriously these days. They just kicked off their race to the bottom with the colorful, budget-conscious Lumia 610 at this year’s Mobile World Congress, and while it’s far and away the least powerful of the Finnish company’s Windows Phone brood, it’s certainly priced to move at €189.

According to Nokia EVP Niklas Savander though, that price tag isn’t quite cheap enough. In a brief interview with Pocket-lint, Savander revealed that in order to better compete with Android, Nokia is very concerned with getting their hardware to even lower price points.

“Android is in many markets at the €100 price already, so that would suggest that if we are at €189 with the Lumia 610 we still have work to do when it comes to creating a lower-end first-time user smartphone.”

Now, Nokia is no stranger to pushing out low-cost, no-frills hardware — their venerable Nokia 1100 once held the crown for the best-selling bit of consumer electronics in the world, but getting their Windows Phones to that level of ubiquity will take a bit of doing. While Nokia toils away on the hardware front in an attempt to cut costs without stymieing performance too much, Microsoft’s Windows Phone Tango update will make sure that the eventual end-users don’t lose too much functionality in the process.

Does Nokia have Summer Surpise For Us? A Windows 8 Tablet Perhaps?

According to reports from the French newspaper Les Échos,  Nokia’s former Head of France has leaked to them that Nokia should have a Windows 8 powered tablet coming out early this summer.

This is not new news however…it became more relevant with his other leak from form the same interview that did where he also predicted the coming of the Lumia 900.

“the Lumia 800 is the equivalent of a BMW 5 Series…There will be a BMW 7 Series and BMW 3 series equivalent…”

He also went on to tell about 4.3 inch screen, NFC support, and  LTE which as we know all showed up in the Nokia 900.

In this interview he was quoted as stating that Nokia tablet will come out in June 2012.  So why I am sticking with this summer? It’s that the interview was old and things could have changed between than and now. One thing is safe to say is that the Nokia tablet is coming and coming soon!

MWC 2012: HTC, Nokia and Samsung steal the show

As the excitement of the recently concluded Mobile World Congress 2012 (2012) dies down, and everyone starts settling back in their own mundane existence, let’s take a look back at the devices that stole the scene and marked the highlights and sidelights of MWC 2012.

HTC unveiled the HTC One series that included HTC One X, HTC One V and HTC One X but it was the latter that wowed the crowd the most.  HTC One X with it’s stellar camera, superb 4.7-inch 720p Super LCD 2 non-PenTile display, quad-core Tegra 3 processor and the unibody polycarbonate housing.  Running on HTC Sense 4.0 with ICS, One X removes all sluggishness normally associated with Sense.  Props to HTC for fine-tuning their overlay and of course big thanks to the Tegra 3 CPU, HTC One X delivers lightning fast yet silky-smooth UI feel.

While opting not to launch the highly-anticipated Galaxy S III, Samsung instead decided to push the Galaxy Note 10.1.  Although not much different from the previous version, the increased screen real estate, perfect scrolling and build quality easily made this super Note one of MWC’s show-stopper by commanding huge amount of attention.

One of the most talked-about phone in the expo, Nokia PureView 808 certainly captured a lot of attention by way of its 41-megapixel monster camera and Rich Recording audio feature.  Sample images taken by its camera yielded rich, almost surreal feel and videos taken at extremely low light turned out cleanly with little to no noise.  The technology sorrounding Nokia PureView 808 is truly awe-inspiring.

Nokia 808 Pureview wins Best New Mobile Handset, Device or Tablet award at Mobile World Congress 2012

Nokia has won the prestigious “Best New Mobile Handset, Device or Tablet at Mobile World Congress 2012? award with their new Nokia 808 Pure View.

The decision was made by a panel of leading journalists and analysts at the show that elected Nokia 808 as the best mobile at the event and the 41 Mpixels camera sure helped Nokia to get their hands on this prize. This way, Nokia finally returns as a leading brand in terms of technology and Jo Harlow has left a promise in the air: “There’s lot more to come”.

Nokia has introduced its new high-end camera phone at the 2012 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. The Nokia 808 PureView smartphone features a large high-resolution 41 megapixel sensor with high-performance Carl Zeiss optics and new pixel oversampling technology.

The video above shows how at standard resolutions (2/3, 5 and 8 megapixels) the Nokia 808 PureView has the ability to zoom without loss of clarity and capture seven pixels of information, condensing into one pixel for the sharpest images.  According to Nokia, at high-resolution (38 megapixel maximum) the Nokia 888 can capture an image, then zoom, reframe, crop and resize afterwards, and then save in compact file sizes for sharing in email, MMS, or on social networks. The Nokia 808 PureView also features full HD 1080p video recording and playback with 4X lossless zoom and the world's first use of Nokia Rich Recording, which enables audio recording at CD-like levels of quality. Exclusive Dolby Headphone technology is also onboard for surround sound in headphones, and Dolby Digital Plus for 5.1 channel surround sound playback.

Nokia 808 PureView wins Best New Device at MWC

The winner for one last category of the Global Mobile Awards - the Best New Mobile Handset, Device or Tablet at Mobile World Congress 2012 award - was left to be announced and looking at the photo of smiling Nokia execs makes it easy to guess which device took that award home.

The Nokia 808 PureView, which arguably caused the biggest splash with its 41MP camera sensor, was voted worthy of the award by a panel of journalists and analysts attending the show.

Here's what Jo Harlow, Executive Vice President of smart devices at Nokia, had to say about the award:

It?s a fantastic award because it signifies that consumer experience counts. It?s about tech, but it?s about how tech is used to make a consumer have a fantastic experience. The imaging is fantastic; the audio is fantastic; the navigation technology is fantastic.

These are first signals that we are executing against our strategy. That we?re back. That we?re bringing great products to our consumers ? and that this is just the beginning. There?s lot more to come.

We have a lot of work ahead of us. We?re still a challenger, and we are going to operate as we have done in this last year to deliver these great results.

Nokia 808 Pure View to arrive to the market on the May 7th

The great sensation of the Mobile World Congress 2012 and winner of the best mobile at the event is set to arrive to the public on the May 7th.

The Nokia 808 Pure View, that made a huge impact on the mobile fan community with his 41 Mpixels camera sensor, should arrive to the markets in the next 2 months according to the site Mobilefun. Is not yet clear which markets it will arrive first but it has been advanced during the MWC 2012 event that it will have a price of 450 Euros before taxes.

The interest on this phone has been growing from the day that it was presented and Nokia should expect that it will be well received in the market.

Nokia officially announce Lumia 610 and world Lumia 900

After many leaks, it's now official - Nokia announce the Lumia 610 at the Mobile World Congress as well as the global availability of the Lumia 900.

Running Windows Phone 7.5, the Lumia 610 is powered by an 800MHz single-core Snapdragon S1 processor and 256MB of RAM and 8GB storage.

With a 3.7" WVGA TFT LCD screen, the Lumia 610 stands at 119mm x 62mm x 12mm and weighs 131.5 grams.

The camera of the Lumia 610 is a 5MP unit with auto-focus and a LED flash. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS are on board, as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack, microUSB port and a 1300mAh battery.

The Nokia Lumia 610 will come in white, cyan, magenta and black for the price of 189 ?. Nokia expects the device to hit the market some time in Q2.

The Lumia 900 will make its global debut this year. Elop said the high-end Windows Phone device will also hit Canada with Rogers in its LTE version and DCHSPA, which doubles the speed of regular HSPA+ for the rest of the world.

The global version of the Lumia 900 will come in its usual colors, white, cyan and black and will retail for 480?. Like the Lumia 610 it will too out in Q2.

In addition, Nokia is updating some of the applications on Windows Phone as well as introducing new ones. Nokia Drive is one of the updated apps.

The updated Nokia Drive includes not only updated maps and content, but also the addition of speed limits, which is handy. And to make it even harder to resist, Nokia have thrown in full offline capabilities.

The new one is Nokia Reading. It is a personalized news feed app, just like Google Reader on Android or Pulse. Nokia Reading provides local language content as well as books and news. Nokia will provide the app as a free download, too.

In addition, Windows Phone is coming finally to China. And because of the need to reach emerging markets, Nokia announced the minimum requirements for devices to run Windows Phone 7 is now just 256MB of RAM on devices with Qualcomm 7x278 family of chips.

Is the Nokia Belle Feature Pack 1 for the 808 really Carla in disguise?

Ali from MyNokiaBlog.com had a chance to get his hands on a Nokia 808 Pureview and found some interesting facts.  First the software version on the prototype is version 112, the browser is version 8.2 and there is a new multitasking view.  As many of you already know, the current version of Belle is 111 and the browser is on 7.4.  Is this really Carla in disguise? Nokia announces PureView 808 with a 41 MP sensor

Today at their MWC2012's press event, Nokia brought the PureView teaser to fever pitch with the 41 megapixel camera of the Symbian Belle-running Nokia PureView 808.

The Nokia 808 PureView uses a 41 MP sensor, which captures image data from seven adjacent pixels and condenses it into one, resulting in stills at around 5 MP resolution with amazing detail and low noise levels. The optics are Carl Zeiss and there's Xenon flash and a LED one acting as a video light.

Technically, the sensor is able to capture 3 MP, 5 MP, 8 MP, 38 MP at 4:3 aspect ratio and 2 MP, 5 MP [Default], 8 MP, 34 MP at 16:9.

Video recording goes as high as FullHD 1080p at 30 fps and there's also 720p@30fps. Video is H264 encoded and supports stereo sound. The large image sensor allows 4x zoom in 1080p and 6x in 720p.

Nokia 808 PureView

The Nokia 808 PureView has a single-core 1.3 GHz processor and 512 MB of RAM and runs Symbian Belle. The display is a 16:9 4" AMOLED unit of nHD (640 x 360) resolution covered with curved Gorilla Glass.

There's NFC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, USB on the go and 16 GB of onboard storage.

The Nokia 808 PureView should be on the shelves around May 2012.

Nokia Lumia 610 pictures and details emerge

With only hours left till Nokia's press conference at MWC, we have some fresh details and images of the upcoming announcements.

Nokia Lumia 610 pictured below, will be the company's entry level Windows Phone handset. The device is expected to feature a 3.2" screen, 3MP camera, and Windows Phone Tango on board. Given the nature of the new OS, it shouldn't be a surprise if the device comes with 256MB of RAM.

The Nokia Lumia 610 will reportedly be priced at ?175, when it hits the shelves. India will be one of the first markets to receive the device.

Next in line is the global version of the Nokia Lumia 900. The AT&T version caused quite a splash during CES, so there is no surprise here.

Also, don't forget the PureView camera phone, whose teaser emerged a few days ago. The device is expected to be the successor of the venerable N8, so the interest towards it is huge.

Nokia Preparing “Significant Industry News” at MWC on Feb. 27

Nokia has been making great strides in the last few months with big announcements at all the major events lately.  The Mobile World Congress in Barcelona will be no exception.

Until recently, an announcement from Nokia has always been met with a bit of trepidation.  During the darker days, these were often ominus and often meant bad news was on the horizon.  Lately however the announcements have taken a more positive note with the relationship between Microsoft and Nokia seemingly blossoming.  One can only hope the announcement follows suit with the recent trend.  The official announcement can be found below.

On Monday, February 27, the first day of Mobile World Congress, Nokia will host a press conference, where it will announce significant industry news. The press conference will be hosted by Stephen Elop, Nokia’s president and CEO. Due to the pending public transportation disruption, doors will be opened, and accredited media admitted starting at 08:00 a.m. CET.

All attendees to the Nokia Press Conference must have an official Mobile World Congress pass identifying them as accredited media. Unfortunately, admittance to the press conference without accreditation is not possible.

We strongly encourage all attendees to register and collect their badge over the weekend. Please note, badges can only be collected in person and cannot be collected for other attendees. On Monday, February 27, MWC registration at the Fira opens at 07:00 a.m. CET.

Due to space limitations, admittance to the Nokia press conference will be on a first-come, first served basis.
