Every major release of Android has been adorned with the name of a dessert. It started with Cupcake (v1.5), and followed with Donut (v2.0), then Eclair (v2.1), Froyo (Frozen Yogourt) (v2.2), Gingerbread (v2.3), Honeycomb (v3.0), and most recently Ice Cream Sandwich (v4.0). The next version, although not confirmed, is heavily hinted as being called Jellybean. The name to follow was recently hinted by The Verge as Key Lime Pie.
Of course it’s way too early to confirm any details such as version number, features or release date, just the potential name. With the fragmentation of the Android marketplace getting worse with each new release, one can probably bet that the time between each major release to increase as the devices that support the older versions fall off and users upgrade to new devices with newer versions. The only thing to do now is to wait for the official announcement of Jelly Bean.
